A bus caught fire on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj on Friday afternoon, leaving three passengers injured.
The bus caught fire at the Dhaleswari toll plaza on the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway, which is known as Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.
According to witnesses, a Patuakhali-bound bus of ‘Islam Paribahan’ from Dhaka caught fire at about 12:15 pm when it reached Dhaleshawri toll plaza on the expressway.
All the passengers managed to get down from the bus but three suffered burn injuries.
Of them, seriously injured one was sent to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.
On information, a team of Sirajdikhan Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control in 20 minutes.
In-charge of Sirajdikhan Fire Service and Civil Defence Badal Rahman said, “We were told by the staffers of the toll plaza that the fire started because of the engine overheating. We also think that it was the reason for the fire.”
Executive Engineer of Munshiganj Roads and Highways Division Nahin Reza said that they primarily assume the incident might have taken place due to a technical glitch. Infrastructure of the toll plaza was damaged in the fire, he said.
