A three-and-a-half-feet-long Burmese python was rescued and released into the forest in the coastal Patharghata upazila of Barguna district on Monday afternoon.

On Sunday, at around 7am, the snake was found in a pond at the residence of Saiful Islam, son of Khalilur Rahman, in the Ruhita area of Patharghata Sadar Union.

Zakir Hossain Munshi, the leader of the wild animal rescue tiger team, received reports of the snake's presence in a chicken coop, where it had entered by breaking through the pond's net.

Munshi and his team discovered the snake ensnared in the net and reported the incident to forest officials. However, they did not respond to the request for assistance.

Journalist and wildlife enthusiast Arif Rahman arrived from Barguna and handed the snake over to the Forest Department.

Patharghata Forest department officer Al Amin confirmed the recovery of the Burmese python.

On Monday, at around 2pm, the python was released into the forest area of Patharghata-Bit, returning it to its natural habitat.
