Farmers have got bumper yields by planting two new varieties of paddy in Pakundia upazila in Kishoreganj. Boro paddy harvesting of Bri-Hybrid-5 and Bri-Hybrid-3 varieties produced under the overall supervision of the Department of Agricultural Extension has started in Adityapasha village of Angeyadi block of the upazila on Sunday noon.
It has produced 80 maunds per acre of paddy. Pakundia Upazila Agriculture Extension Department implemented this new variety in paddy production. This was funded by the Hybrid Rice Department of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute.
Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Hamimul Haque Sohag said that for the first time in the district, bumper yield had been obtained by planting these two varieties of paddy on 1 bigha of land as a result and demonstration trial of Bri-hybrid paddy. 247 rice has been produced in one rice variety of Bri-Hybrid-5 and 213 rice in one rice variety of Bri-Hybrid-3.
Pakundia Upazila Agriculture Officer Saiful Hasan Alamin said the variety is able to give the highest yield among the different varieties of Boro season through proper care. It is not possible for any other variety to give so many yields.
