The authorities of the South Asia’s largest cotton seed growing farm, located in Chaugachha Upazila of Jashore, are expecting a bumper cotton output this year.
Out of 157 acres of farm land, 43 acres of land has been cultivated with different varieties of cotton.
Among these, improved varieties of cotton seeds have been collected from several countries of the world and have been planted. If this cotton is good in the research, it will be given to the farmers.
This vast farm is now a greenery, and in the late afternoon many locals come to see the beautiful surroundings of the farm.
The farm is located at Jagadishpur village in Chaugachha upazila of the district. After going through many ups and downs, the locals think that the farm has kept its reputation intact even today.
The farm was established by acquiring 157 acres of land from the farmers of Jagadishpur, Mirzapur, Kandi, Arkandi, Swarparajpur and Purahuda villages.
Various varieties of cotton have been cultivated on 43 acres of the main land of the farm this year. At present every cotton plant is full of flowers and fruits.
The farm authorities think that the bumper crop of cotton will be harvested as the weather is favorable. Golam Rasul, a local resident, said the farm environment is much better than ever before.
Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun, manager of Jagadishpur Cotton Research and Seed Growth Farm, said the farm mainly provides research and training to farmers.
We collect improved varieties of cotton seeds from home and abroad and cultivate them experimentally on the farm. If the cotton is good, we distribute it among the farmers for cultivation. He said various varieties of cotton have been cultivated in 43 acres of land on the farm this season.
Seeds of C, B-12C, B-14, Hybrid-1 and C, B-13 and C, B-16 varieties have been collected from Turkey, China and Brazil for research. All those cottons have also been cultivated. If this cotton is considered suitable through research, it will be given to the farmers later.
Manager Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun said that the cotton grown on the farm is still in very good condition. He hopes that if there is no natural calamity, cotton cultivation will break all past records this year.
