In the current season, there is a chance of a mustard bumper in Pabna's Chatmohar Upazila. Farmers will start pre-harvesting mustard from the land in the next few days.
According to Chatmohar Agriculture Office sources, a target of 6,330 hectares of mustard cultivation has been set in Chatmohar this season. 6,750 hectares have been acquired. Mustard cultivation in 420 hectares is more than the target.
During the inspection of some fields on the surface, it was seen that there are still flowers in some of the mustard fields. The flowers of some lands have already faded. Talking to the farmers, it is known that in the next few days they will start the work of early mustard harvesting.
Ratan Hossain, a farmer of Bardanagar village in Chatmohar, said that many good varieties of mustard are being cultivated at present. Mustard cultivation in one bigha land costs about 7 thousand Tk. Those who cultivated the land and cultivated mustard, the cost is a little higher. Yield is 5 to 7 mounds per bigha. The current market price of mustard is about 3 thousand Tk per man. The price of new mustard is slightly less than this. According to calculations, the farmer can earn about 5 to 6 thousand Tk per bigha.
Chatmohar Upazila Agriculture Officer AA Masum Billah said that in Chatmohar, high-yielding Bari-9, 14, 17, 18, Bina-4 and 9, Rai-5 varieties of mustard are usually grown in Chatmohar. Besides, Tori-7 variety of mustard is cultivated in some lands. We are working to expand the cultivation of this edible oil crop. So far the weather has been favorable for mustard cultivation.
An average yield of about one and a half metric tons per hectare is likely if not affected by adverse weather conditions.
The price of mustard in the current market is also very good. Upazila Agriculture authorities hope to see a goof yield of mustard, he stated.
