Farmers are happy getting bumper production of garlic with fair price in Bera Upazila of Pabna. Many garlic and onion farmers expressed their satisfaction as they got a good yield and fair price this season.
The production and price of garlic in Bera is better this year than the last year. Upazila Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said that around 25 to 30 maunds of garlic have been harvested from one Bigha of land this year as the weather was favorable. Per maund garlic is being sold at Tk 5,000 to Tk 5,500 at the local markets.
A farmer of Pachuria village of the Upazila, Ajgar Ali said that he spent a total of Tk 70,000 to cultivate garlic at two Bighas of land. He sold garlic at Tk 4,800 per maund a few days ago. On Monday, he sold the spicy crop at Tk 5,300 per maund at Kashinathpur Haat. After visiting several local markets, it was seen that the garlic farmers were happy as they got a bumper production and good price this year. Many farmers delightedly said that they will put emphasis on garlic cultivation in future.
Bera Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Nusrat Kabir said that the garlic production is good this year due to the favorable weather. There is a good production in every field. Moreover, the farmers are getting good price for garlic.
