Bumper production of Aus has been recorded in six districts of south-western region this year. The six districts are- Jashore, Jhenaidah, Magura, Kushtia, Chuadanga and Meherpur.
Office of the Additional Director of Department Agriculture Extension (DAE) here said the target was fixed for cultivating Aus on 1,39,398 hectares of land for producing 4,82,242 metric tonnes rice.
DAE Jashore additional director office sources said that farmers cultivated on 17,015 hectares of land and produced 48,677 metric tonnes of Aus rice in Jashore, while 35,490 hactares of land cultivated and produced 1, 13, 849 metric tonnes rice in Jhenaidah, 5,390 hactares of land cultivated and produced 15, 510 metric tonnes rice in Magura, 27,500 hactares of land cultivated and produced 83, 572 metric tonnes rice in Kushtia, 43,173 hactares of land cultivated and produced 1,49,354 metric tonnes rice in Chuadanga, 20,830 hactares of land cultivated and produced 71,280 metric tonnes rice in Meherpur district. The average production was 3.90 metric tonnes rice per hectare in the areas.
This year the price of Aus paddy is varying between Taka 950 and Taka 1,000 per maund and farmers are happy with the high market price.
Additional Director of DAE of Jashore region Parthopratim Saha said production of Aus in these districts this year is satisfactory. Timely supply of fertilizer, pesticides, and favourable weather contributed to bumper production of Aus paddy.
