Building owner fined for Aedes larvae presence

Published : 09 May 2024 09:58 PM

The Mymensingh City Corporation conducted a campaign on Thursday, resulting in fines imposed on two building owners totaling Tk 7,000 each.

The penalties were levied due to the discovery of Aedes mosquito larvae in water accumulated within buildings under construction in the Amirabad Housing and Polytechnic area.

The mobile court, led by Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate S. M. Mazharul Islam, emphasized strict penalties for any instance of Aedes mosquito breeding found within construction sites. This initiative aims to curb the spread of dengue, with continued enforcement planned in the future.

In addition to mobile court operations, the city corporation is actively engaged in mosquito control measures, including larvicide and adulticide application, along cleanliness drives and awareness campaigns. Efforts also involve public engagement through the making and distribution of informational leaflets.

During the campaign, officials, including Food and Sanitation Officer Deepak Majumder, Sanitary Inspector Javed Iqbal, and law enforcement personnel, were present to ensure effective implementation.

While Mymensingh had remained dengue-free until April, recent admissions of two adults and a child with dengue at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital highlight the urgency of continued preventive measures.
