Satya Prasad Majumder, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), has resigned from his position. This resignation adds his name to the list of public university vice-chancellors stepping down after the departure of the Sheikh Hasina government.
On Sunday, Satya Prasad Majumder submitted his resignation letter to the secretary of the university chancellor and the secretary of the education ministry. The Director of BUET Student Welfare Department (DSWO), Professor Mohammad Al Amin Siddique, confirmed this news to bdnews24.com.
In his resignation letter, Satya Prasad Majumder wrote, "I have worked with teachers, students, officials, and employees to improve the education and research of the university and to protect the reputation of BUET. Currently, I have resigned from the post of Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) due to personal problems.”
Satya Prasad Majumder is a respected teacher in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He was first appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of BUET on June 25, 2020. Recently, he was reappointed for a second term on July 3, 2024. However, his second term was cut short due to his resignation.
The resignation comes amid changes in the government, and it is reported that he had to step down following demands from students after a shift in power. This development marks a significant event in BUET's administration as it navigates the transition period after the mass coup.
