BUET inaugurates amphibious house in Sirajganj

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) as well as the Urbanizing Deltas of the World project: CORE Bangladesh arranged an inauguration ceremony of amphibious house in Sirajganj.

This event was organised yesterday in close cooperation with the CORE Bangladesh project partners BUET and IHE Delft.

This project will initiate and support community-based innovation, development, production, and implementation of different small-scale Dutch technology that alleviate immediate flood-related nuisance. And will finally enhance community flood resilience.

Amphibious house is one of the innovations for the first time in Bangladesh being launched in Sirajganj which will float in the water while flood water enters into the land, again when flood flows out it will set on the ground surface.

The inauguration was organised in two slots in two different locations i.e. launching: 10:00am to 10:30am; Sunday; Amphibious Unit Site, Ranigram, Sirajganj and inauguration: 11:00am to 12:30 pm; Sunday; DC Hall Room, Sirajganj.

Dr Faruk Ahammed, Deputy Commissioner, Sirajganj was present as the chief guest whereas Tutul Chakraborty, Superintendent of Police, Sirajganj was present as special guest, among others, project leaders of CORE Bangladesh, Dr M Shah Alam Khan, IWFM, BUET and Professor Christiaan Zevenbergen, IHE Delft will be present at the ceremony.

Many national international students from WetSkill Event, CORE Bangladesh team, local NGO partner, SHARP, local farmers, workshop mechanics, flood effected community of Sirajganj were also present at this programme.
