The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has officially announced that students are no longer allowed to engage with any political party. The decision, shared through a notification on Saturday, was signed by the university's registrar, Professor Dr Mohammad Forkan Uddin.
The BUET administration stated that this move is aimed at improving the quality of education, ensuring a fair assessment of students' merit, and enhancing BUET's reputation on the international stage.
The notification cited Article 16 of the BUET Ordinance and the resolutions from the 503rd emergency meeting of the Academic Council of the Board of Residence and Discipline. It mentioned that students can only participate in clubs or societies approved by the university and cannot be involved with any political organizations.
The university authorities stressed that students must strictly follow the regulations set forth in the ordinance. If students fail to comply, appropriate action will be taken against them according to the university rules.
This decision follows an earlier action taken on September 25, when BUET revoked the hall seat allotments of several students accused of being involved in Chhatra League politics. The university's actions were in response to ongoing student protests regarding political activities on campus. BUET hopes that these steps will help maintain a better academic environment and promote merit-based progress for its students.
