The Department of English of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organized a seminar on Nobel Laureate writer Saul Bellow entitled ‘Bellow’s Intellectual Heroes’ at BUBT campus on Saturday.
Distinguished literature critique Professor Dr Syed Manzoorul Islam was the discussant. Professor Syed Anwarul Huq, dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities presented the seminar paper. Md Shawkat Ali, associate professor and chairman, Department of English presided over the seminar. Papers were presented by faculty members Dilruba, Jakiya Sultana Lime, Kazal Kumar Das. Md Sabbir Ahmed, assistant professor of English anchored the seminar. Dr Muhammad Fayazz Khan, professor of EEE; Engineer Md Azharul Haque, chairman, Department of EEE and Wing Commander (retd) M Momenul Islam, proctor along with teachers and students of the Department of English were present in the seminar.
Speakers tried to evaluate Bellow’s characters in the light of their sense of alienation, sufferings, frustration and victimization in a modern city like Dhaka.
