Shuchita Sharmin, a professor from the Development Studies Department of Dhaka University, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Barisal University. She is the first woman to hold this position at the university. Her tenure will last for four years from the date she officially takes up the role.
The Ministry of Education issued a letter on Monday confirming her appointment. According to the letter, Dr. Sharmin will receive pay and benefits equal to her current post at Dhaka University, along with other perks associated with the role of Vice-Chancellor as per the rules.
Public Relations Officer Faisal Hasan of Barisal University confirmed the news of her appointment. Dr. Sharmin will serve as the fifth VC of the institution.
This appointment marks a significant step in the university’s leadership, as she becomes the first female VC in its history. Dr. Shuchita Sharmin has been a professor at Dhaka University and brings her experience and expertise to this new role at Barisal University.
With her new role, the university hopes to continue its progress in academic and administrative areas under her leadership. Many believe her background in development studies will help Barisal University move forward in the coming years.
