Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Monday said the founding anniversary of the state-owned Bangladesh Television, which has kept an outstanding contribution to all movements and struggles of the Bangalees, is a milestone of national life.
The minister told reporters after paying rich tribute to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking the 58th founding anniversary of BTV in the city.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Md Humayun Kabir Khandaker, BTV director general Sohrab Hossain and senior officials were present.
Hasan said there are now four channels- BTV, BTV World, Sangsad BTV and BTV Chattogram. Step has been taken to set up full-pledge BTV centers at more six divisional cities, he added.
He said the BTV has been playing an outstanding role in practicing and enriching the culture, art and heritage and building the state and the nation and to create the mind of the nation. The journey of the private television sector has begun by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
He said many famous artistes were created through BTV and many officials of the state-owned channel had sacrificed their lives in the great Liberation War. Even, four officials of BTV were killed after the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The minister said BTV has played a pivotal role in all sectors including the independence movement. Humyun said the BTV has played a pioneering role for TV channels in the country.
