A female student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) has received gang-rape threat for making post on Facebook against rape. Hasan Al Mamun, who allegedly issued the threat, has claimed himself as an activist of Chhatra League.
Alif Laila, a second year student of agriculture department of the university, claimed that she received threat through Facebook Messenger on Monday. She filed a general diary with Magura Sadar Police Station in this regard on Tuesday.
Alif Laila said, she was not involved with any political organisation. She only made some post against rape and the culture of impunity. Because of these posts, she along with her mother and two sisters received rape threat.
“In a message Mamun claimed himself a supporter of Ali Ahsan Mukta, general secretary of Chhatra League’s Magura district unit. Besides, he also mentioned the name of Jahangir Alam, a BCL activist of BSMRSTU,” said Alif Laila.
When contacted, Md. Ali Hossain Mukta said that he has no involvement with this incident. Someone may make such a message by using his name to tarnish his image. “When I came to know about the matter, I filed a General Diary on Monday with
Jahangir Alam also denied the allegation. He called upon the university authorities to take necessary steps to find out the person who made the threat.
Dr. Raziur Rahman, Proctor of BSMRSTU, said, “The victim student informed me about the matter. If she lodges a written complaint, the proctor office will take all necessary steps.”
