Ground breaking ceremony of the permanent campus of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Bangladesh (BSMRMU) was held in Chattogram city on Sunday.
Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel inaugurated the development work through a video conference held at Radisson Blue Hotel, in Chattogram. BSMRMU Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal presided over the ceremony. MPs of different constituency of Chattogram, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Dr. Kazi Shahidullah and chairman of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Zahirul Alam Dobash were also present, among others, at the programme, says a press release issued from BSMRMU’s Dhaka campus which is signed by Md Salman Sadekin Choyon, public relation officer of the BSMRMU.
In his speech, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel hoped that the university will play an important role in the inception of necessary theory, modern technology and creation of skilled manpower for maritime research and resource explore. He also focused on the potentiality of this university considering the Blue-Economy importance in implementing Honorable Prime Minister’s Vision-2041, achieving the goals of SDGs and Delta Plan-2100. The Vice-Chancellor in his speech thanked the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for establishing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University and he also sought cooperation from the ministry and all concerned to set up the permanent campus.
Our Staff Correspondent from Chattogram adds: Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel in the function said that the Prime Minister's vision-2041, the country's sustainable development target and the implementation of Delta Plan will be the role of the university considering the importance of Blue Economy.
This permanent campus of the university will be established on 106.6 acres of land in Hamidchar area of Char Bakaoiya and Char Rangamatia of Bandar thana in Chattogram.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University was established in 2013 as the 37th public university of the country. It is the first maritime university in Bangladesh and the 3rd maritime university in South Asia and the 12th maritime university in the world.
