Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has awarded research grants to 438 students, marking a significant milestone in medical education. The university distributed a total of Tk 5,31,43,000, providing individual grants of up to Tk 1.5 lakh to support doctoral research.
The grants were presented at BSMMU's Shaheed Dr Milan Hall, with Vice-Chancellor Prof Deen Md Nurul Haque leading the ceremony. He emphasised the need for research conducted by BSMMU’s teachers, doctors, and students to meet international standards. Highlighting the rarity of awarding research grants to so many doctoral students simultaneously, he suggested that this remarkable achievement deserves recognition in the Guinness Book of Records.
VC Nurul Haque also noted the strong support from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina towards research initiatives. He assured that the current administration remains committed to facilitating and enhancing research efforts at BSMMU. The university has implemented multifaceted measures to improve research quality and expand research opportunities. During the event, speakers underscored the critical importance of medical research in today’s world. They pointed out that recent outbreaks of various flus and viruses, including the COVID-19 pandemic, have underscored the necessity for advanced research in health and medical science. Internationally recognised research is crucial for disease prevention, innovation in medical technology, vaccine development, and understanding the dynamics of diseases.
The ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Mohammed Atiqur Rahman and Dean prof Dr Mohammad Ali Asgar Moral.With this substantial investment in research, BSMMU continues to pave the way for groundbreaking advancements in medical science, encouraging its students and faculty to leverage this opportunity to its fullest potential.
