Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has planed to procure 16 vessels, including two mother bulk carriers, 10 lighters, two mother tankers and two mother product oil tankers, by 2021.
Commodore Suman Mahmood Sabir, Managing Director of the company, said this while exchanging views with journalists during the 42nd annual general meeting of the BSC headquarters at Saltgola in Chattogram on Wednesday afternoon.
Currently there are eight ships in the BSC fleet. These include the new six vessels of 93,000 tonnes collected from China in 2018, the conquest of MV Bengal, the prosperity of MV Bengal, the achievement of Bengal, the advance of Bengal, the pioneer of Bengal, the progress of Bengal. In addition, there were two 14,514 DWT tankers in Bengal named Jyoti in 1987 and Sourav in Bengal.
BSC generates Tk 230 crore 7 lakh in the financial year 2018-19. Tk 174 crore 84 lakh is spent. Net profit is Tk 55 crore 23 lakh. At the 302nd meeting of the BSC Board of Directors on October 15, 10 percent cash dividend was recommended for shareholders. In the previous financial year, the revenue was Tk 129 crore 44 lakh, expense Tk 116 crore 92 lakh and net profit was Tk 12 crore 52 lakh.
BSC MD said that coal is being imported for coal based power projects in Rampal, Pigera and Matarbari. In order to build a continuous supply chain for coal transport in the interest of energy security of the country, two mother bulk carriers of 80 thousand tonnes and bulk carrier procurement capacity of 10 to 10-15 thousand tonnes have been taken for lighting.
A project to purchase Mother Tanker capacity of 2 to 1 lakh tonnes has been taken to transport all crude oil from Eastern Refinery to BSC's own vessel. A project to collect 80 tonnes of Mother Oil tanker for transporting 30 lakh tonnes of diesel and 3.5 lakh tonnes of jet fuel has been undertaken. In addition, a preliminary project to procure 6 LNG Vessels by 2041 has been taken. We want to collect ships with low interest loans in the government-to-government process. The BSC AGM will be held at the Chittagong Boat Club at 11am next Sunday.
