A social gathering of 500 people was organized at Manirampur upazila in Jashore amid coronavirus outbreak ignoring govt prohibition on the occasion of a wedding on Sunday afternoon.
The incident took place at Chandipur village in Manirampur at the wedding of Mosharef Hossain’s daughter Beli and Ashikur Rahman of Jhapa villege of the same upazila.
While the wedding dinner was going on at the bride’s house, Police and mobile court arrived there. Seeing the police and administration officials bride and groom fled away along with the guests.
Marriage ceremonies have been prohibited to prevent transmission of coronavirus. Yet, if anyone wants to arrange a wedding, at the moment permission of the Deputy Commissioner is required. But the bride's father Mosharef Hossain invited 500 people to attend his daughter’s wedding dinner without any such permission.
On receiving the news, Executive magistrate Assistant Commissioner (Land) Saiyema Hassan visited the spot along with a mobile court. Assistant surveyor of the mobile court Abdul Mannan confirmed the matter.
A guest of the groom's party Sahabur Rahman said, "On our way to attend the programme we heard that Police arrived at the spot, so we went back home. He also said that the wedding was already done before, Sunday’s programme was arranged to see off the bride.
AC (Land) Saiyema Hassan said, “A wedding dinner was going on in Chandipur village breaking quarantine. On receiving the news of the gathering of 500 people I went there with the Police. Everyone, including the bride and groom escaped after seeing us so, no one was found”.
