Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Brac University (BracU), in association with IEEE Brac University Student Branch, organized a workshop on “PCB Designing and Prototyping” on Saturday.

The instructor for the workshop was Abir Ahsan Akib, lecturer, Department of EEE, Brac University. The workshop started at 10am and 39 students of Department of EEE, ECE programme and CSE student participated.

The instructor started the workshop by introducing the participants to some basic terminologies and design considerations in PCB designing. Then the participants were introduced with “Cadsoft Eagle” as a software for PCB designing after a qualitative analysis of different software available for the purpose.

Professor Dr Shahidul Islam Khan, chairperson, Department of EEE, Brac University visited the workshop and shared his experience about working with PCB. He also encouraged the participants to participate in the future programmes to be organized and shared his future event plans with the students.

After that, the instructor went through with the basics of PCB designing, schematic design, component selection, routing and the design rules that must be followed for designing an efficiently working PCB. Each participant designed a double sided PCB on their own. The participants were also instructed about how to export their design and send it to the PCB developers for manufacturing. A video presentation was made on the etching technology prevalent in the country and how it is performed.

The workshop ended at 1:30pm with the participants clicking a group photo with the instructor. Refreshments were served at the end of the event.
