The director General (DG) of the Bangladesh railway (BR) Mohammad Shamsuzzaman had said they have been introducing modern luggage vans to carry the agriculture produces of the farmers ensuring them fair prices as early as possible.
To this end the government had signed memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 31 last year with China to bring 75 mere-gage and 50 broad gage luggage vans. The BR DG was addressing mass gathering with the farmers at Barobazer Railway station under Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah on Saturday noon.
Presided over by BR WEster Zone director general Mihir kanti Guha, lawmaker of Jhenidah04 seat Anwarul Azim Anar attended as chief guest, while upazila parishad chairman Shah Mohammad Jahangir Siddique, press club president Jamir Hossain and railway officials among others spoke. Huge farmers involved in vegetable production, businessmen, local elite and media activists remain resent there.
Mohammad Shamsuzzaman said the farmers in south-western districts are depri0ved of fair prices f their produces during the season and incurring heavy loss that breaks their socio-economic state badly. As agriculture production is their only means to survive, they should be given facilities to ensure fair prices.
He said the government of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is considering to make Khulna- Dhaka railway route to double line and introduce modern luggage vans to make the agriculture farming profitable. The route will arrange a number of stoppages between the two destinations.
To this end the government will release the occupied lands on both sides of roads between Khulna and Darshana of Chiadanga. The government will also sit with the farmers how to make their farming environment-friendly and profitable. It will also help boost production and expand the trade with surrounding districts within a few years, the DG said.
Lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar in his speech as chief guest said the middlemen avails the opportunity of profit from the crops which are hard earned by the farmers. The railway communications might help the farmers and build national economy partially.
