BPUS holds closing ceremony of ‘Equal Rights in Action Fund Project’

The closing ceremony of ‘Equal Rights in Action Fund Project’, implemented by ‘Bangladesh Protibondhi Unnayan Sangstha’ (BPUS) was held on Sunday.

The ceremony took place at the auditorium of ‘Manusher Jonno Foundation’ at Mirpur-2 in the capital. Director (Institution) of the Department of Social Services, Md. Qamrul Islam Chowdhury attended the ceremony as chief guest. Founder & Executive Director of BPUS, Badiul Alam presided over the event while Human Rights Officer of US Embassy in Dhaka, Sofia Mullenburg & Senior Coordinator of Manusher Jonno Foundation, Nazrana Yeasmin Hira attended the event virtually as the special guests. 

while addressing as chief guest, Qamrul Islam Chowdhury mentioned that the present government is disabled-friendly. Referring to the demand of audiences he said although the allocation for persons with disabilities is less but it will be increased step by step and his department has plan to cover all the Upazilas , which means to ensure 100 percent coverage in providing allowances to the persons with disabilities across the country. 

In his address of welcome, BPUS Present Badiul Alam once again stressed to ensure reserved seat for disabled persons in the national parliament as well as in the local government institutions across the country. 

He said under the project of ‘ Equal Rights in Action Fund Project, BPUS had been running various program even amid Pandemic of Covid-19 including view exchange meeting with leaders of various political parties , holding advocacy program with election monitoring organizations,held round table meetings jointly with daily newspapers, and developed a set of recommendations in favor of the demands of representations of the persons with disabilities in the decision making level. 

He said BPUS has submitted a 13-point written recommendation in this regard to concerned organizations. Chief Coordinator of BPUS has presented a multimedia presentation on the total activities of the project, its effectiveness, challenges, obstacles & future planning. 

More than 100 leaders, beneficiaries & representatives from the stakeholders joined the ceremony both physically and on digital platforms. 

They laid due emphasis on the necessity of continuation of such project in order to pursue the organization or persons concerned in regard to ensuring disabled friendly vote centers, representations in parliament & local government bodies.
