The political upheaval in the country has significantly impacted the sports sector. Following the student-led protests, the cricket scene, in particular, is experiencing extreme instability. This has also introduced new uncertainties regarding the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Before the start of the last BPL season, Nafisa Kamal, the owner of Comilla Victorians, had threatened to withdraw her team over revenue-sharing disputes. In the wake of Sheikh Hasina's government's fall, it is reported that Comilla will not participate in the upcoming BPL.

However, there is new information that Remark & Harlan Company has purchased a BPL team. This cosmetics business has acquired the Dhaka franchise. A source from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed this to a media outlet. The formal process of purchasing the team, including the signing fee, has already been completed.

In the last BPL, the Dhaka franchise was owned by Nutex Group and was named Durdanto Dhaka. They acquired ownership from Rupa Group, under whom the team was called Dhaka Dominators. The relevant company has indicated that the name will change again this season.

This year's BPL is expected to start towards the end of the year, with the players' draft likely to take place at any time in September. However, the change in government has introduced new uncertainties regarding the franchises.
