‘Both Bangladesh, India will benefit if Mymensingh land ports start functioning’

Demanding to start functioning at land ports at Mymensingh areas, the Businessmen of Bangladesh and India at a discussion meeting on Saturday opined that both Bangladesh and India will be benefitted if export and import of goods through these ports start. 

They said if the transportation through Haluaghat Gobrakura, Koraitoli and Nakugaon land ports in Mymensingh runs smoothly it will create new horizon in export import business of both countries. 

The views were made at a meeting of the business representatives of Bangladesh and India on expansion of trade and its possibilities, held at the district council of Mymensingh.

Md. Aminul Haque Shamim, President of the Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce and Industry presided over the meeting, organised by The Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, Guwahati. 

Ikramul Haque Titu, Mayor of Mymensingh City Corporation inaugurated the event while Mahmudul Haque Sayem, Member of Parliament was present as the chief guest.

Indian business representative Abdur Rashid, Haluaghat Municipal Mayor Khairul Alam Bhuiyan, Ikramul Haque Nabin (Jamalpur), Amit Roy, General Secretary of Mymensingh Press Club, Shamim Chowdhury of Karimganj Traders Association of Assam, Dipankar Sangma (Guwahati), Dr. Habibur Rahman Chowdhury ( Guwahati), Akhi Sangma (Garo Hill) addressed the meeting among others.

Shankar Saha, Senior Vice President of Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce and Industry moderated the session.

Along with business leaders from the land ports of Greater Mymensingh, 40 businessmen from the states of Meghalaya and Assam, businessmen from Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrakona districts, participated in the exchange of views.

Mymensingh City Corporation Mayor Md Ikramul Haque Titu said that if  Haluaghat immigration is opened, it will create a huge potential for trade, agriculture, education, cultural exchange and tourism between the two countries using the ports of Mymensingh region.
