Official internal Boro paddy Procurement programme 2021 has started. This time the government is collecting 6 lakh metric tonnes of paddy directly from the farmers at the rate of Tk 27. In Naogaon district 25,697 metric tonnes of paddy will be procured this season and from May 7, Boro collection will start in Naogaon like all over the country.
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder MP inaugurated the programme through a video conference jointly organized by the Food Department and the Food Ministry on Wednesday morning. He virtually addressed the inaugural function being connected with the farmers of nine districts including Naogaon, Bogura, Dinajpur, Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Sylhet, Habiganj, Moulvibazar and Sunamganj. At the outset, he talked to farmers about the yield and market prices of Boro paddy this season.
At the time, the Food Minister said, besides benefiting the farmers, the main goal of government procurement is to increase the stock of food grains in the country and control the market price. District and Upazila procurement committees have been directed to implement that goal. He advised all concerned to be aware so that the farmers do not fall prey to unnecessary harassment while keeping paddy in the warehouse every season.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Naogaon Md. Harun-ur-Rashid presided over the function held at Naogaon Sadar Food Warehouse. Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan Mia, Rajshahi Regional Food Controller GM Faruk Patwari, District DAE Deputy Director Shamsul Wadud, District Rice Mill Owners Group President and Sadar Upazila Chairman Rafiqul Islam, General Secretary Farhad Hossain Chaklader, Sadar Food Warehouse Officer Atikul Islam spoke at the time. Various local level administrative officials were present at the time.
