In the fertile fields of Dhunat Upazila in Bogura, farmers are celebrating a bountiful harvest of cabbage, a lucrative winter vegetable.
Cabbage, renowned for its nutritional richness and versatility, has become a staple in the agricultural endeavors of the region.
One such agriculturist, Azizul Khan, has emerged as a beacon of success in cabbage cultivation. With years of experience, Khan has not only achieved self-sufficiency but also financial prosperity through his consistent cultivation of cabbage. This year, he has once again dedicated a substantial portion of his land, 1 bigha, to the cultivation of this cruciferous vegetable.
Benefiting from favorable weather conditions, Khan is optimistic about this year's yield. Reflecting on his experience, he stated, “I have been cultivating cabbage for the last 4/5 years. Every time I have benefited financially by cultivating barrier copies.”
The farmer highlighted the low maintenance required for Bhatta Kopi cultivation, emphasizing reduced pesticide usage, which ultimately lowers costs.
Expressing confidence in the resilience of cabbage as a market commodity, Khan asserted, “I’m optimistic no matter how low the market goes, I won't have to take a loss.”
He explained that the minimal maintenance needed after initial land preparation and planting contributes to cost-effectiveness, ensuring a favorable profit margin even in the face of market fluctuations.
Cabbage’s perennial popularity is attributed to its various culinary applications and health benefits. Studies have shown that cabbage plays a role in preventing certain types of cancer.
The vegetable can be enjoyed raw, semi-boiled, steamed, fried, or even sun-dried and stored in jars, making it a versatile addition to a variety of dishes throughout the year.
