The body of an NGO worker named Abdullah Al Masud was recovered from Kotbazar in Ukhia upazila of the district.
Police suspected that he committed suicide. The body was recovered from a rented house in Jhautla of Kotbazar South Station of the upazila on Wednesday night. Abdullah Al Masud used to rent that house. He is said to be working for an NGO called NRC.
The deceased Abdullah Al Masood is the son of Mohammad Shafi, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw driver in Fakiraghona area of Bara Maheshkhali.
Ratnapalong Union Parishad panel chairman Salim Kaiser said that Masud rented this house five months ago. He used to take water every day. When he did not come to take water on Wednesday, the locals along with the owner of the house went to investigate and found a rope hanging from the window, and his body was lying on a chair below.
Then, they informed the police of it.
Officer-in-Charge of Ukhia Police Station Shamim Hossain said evidence has been found that he committed suicide. The body was handed over to the relatives without post-mortem, as no complaint was filed by his family members.
