A three-member inquiry committee has been formed to probe allegations of abnormal pay increase of workers of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Cleaning Department.
An office order signed by CCC secretary Abu Shahed Chowdhury mentioned the formation of the committee on Tuesday.
CCC Revenue Officer Shaheda Fatema Chowdhury has been made convener of the committee. The committee has two representatives each from the Accounts Department and the Cleaning Department.
The three-member committee has been asked to submit a report within the next seven days.
Chittagong City Corporation Secretary Abu Shahed Chowdhury said they have been given the responsibility to check the bank accounts. Logically they will submit the report as long as it takes.
CCC Cleaning Department currently employs 2,065 workers under the ‘Door to Door’ project. They are being paid 2 crore 20 lakh 46 thousand and 767 taka per month through seven banks.
There is no information regarding the recruitment of these workers in the cleaning department and secretariat branch of the company. Even the workers do not have appointment letters.
