Boat-Truck tough contest likely

There will be a hard  contest between boat and truck candidate in the  twelfth national polls in Jhenaidah -4 seat comprising Kaliganj and a part Jhenaidah Sadar. Both the aspirants belong to ruling Awami League (AL) are incumbent lawyer and President Kaliganj upazila unit Awami League Anwarul Azim Anar contesting with Boat and Bangabandhu Parishad Kaliganj unit president Abdur Rashid Khokan with the symbol truck. 

Three other aspirants have been contesting from the seat. They are Jatiya Party (JP) aspirant Imdadul Haque Bachchu with the symbol Langal, ex lawmaker Nur Uddin Ahmed from Trinamool BNP with Sonali Ansh (golden fibre) and independent candidate Nazrul Islam Chhana with the symbol Eagle. Activities of the three like publicity, campaign etc. are apparently not enough visible.

A source related the election commission (EC) in Jhenaidah- a total of 315,620 voters including 156,000 women and four third-gender people of one municipality in Kaliganj and our unions of Jhenaidah sadar upazila are going to cast their votes on January 7 next.

Talking to the voters at Simla-Rokanpur, Maliat and Moheshwarchanda villages of Kaliganj they said incumbent lawyer and president Kaliganj upazila unit Awami League Anwarul Azim Anar contesting with Boat for the third time. He has been moving in each and every corner of the constituency with his activists round the clock to get their support. Huge posters and banners were displayed in the area. Handbills were distributed among the people carrying the symbol Boat. 

Locals said Anar has a strong vote bank in thew seat as a number of veteran and senior AL leaders including Kaliganj upazila parishad chairman, municipality mayor and a good number of union parishad chairmen have been supporting him directly.  Anar is a courageous leader in the party and move here and there even in the mid-night to respond any social activities like burial of common people, attend marriage ceremony of poor and such other activities. 

Independent candidate Abdur Rashid Khokan with the symbol Truck is not sitting idle. He has been moving faster to the voters ignoring the cold of the Bangla month Poush. Hat-bazers in the constitution were decorated with banners and posters. Khokan is the younger brother of ex AL lawmaker (late) Abdul Mannan. Mannan has a great contribution for Awami League.

Some elderly voters and concerned people said there is heavy fighting likely between incumbent lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar and Bangabandhu parishad president Abdur Rashid Khokan. Azim trying to remain the seat, while Khokan to capture the same on January 7. A number of young and energetic young activists have ben trying to make Khokan winner to have a dynamic leader for them, the voters said.

Meanwhile, three other candidates are almost invisible like two heavyweights. Probably they had realized that their campaign and other activities could not satisfy the voters, the common voters said.
