Boat sinks in Ulipur: Toddler found dead, 5 others still missing

The body of a child was recovered three days after the boat capsized in Teesta river in Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Kulsoom, 3, daughter of Koyjal Ali, resident of West Bozra area of the Upazila.

Ulipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Mortuza confirmed the matter and said the body of Kulsoom was handed over to her family members.

Sources said that a boat carrying 26 passengers sank in the Teesta river in Sadua Damar Haat area under Bozra union of the Upazila on Wednesday evening. One of the passengers’ body was found on that day. 19 of the passengers managed to swim ashore. Locals informed the firefighters and police personnel when they spotted the floating body of the toddler at 9:00am on Saturday. They recovered Kulsoom’s body from near the place of the accident. However, five people are still missing in the incident.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer M Ataur Rahman said the body of a child named Kulsoom was recovered three days after the boat capsize. Search operation is on to find the missing passengers of the boat.
