BNP is unhappy that the people of the country are happy under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They (BNP leaders) are also unhappy as Begum Zia is recovering, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.
“They are also not happy with the Election Commission. Even if three angels are nominated in the upcoming commission, they will have no confidence in that commission, because they are never happy if they are not guaranteed victory in election,” he said.
The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the tri-annual conference of Naogaon municipal Awami League at Naogaon Zilla School ground on Thursday.
Awami League Naogaon district unit president Freedon Fighter Md Abdul Malek inaugurated the conference and its general secretary and Food Minister Sadhan Chanda Majumder spoke as the key speaker.
Awami League Organising Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, Health Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana, Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker MP, Barrister Nizam Uddin Jalil Jon MP, Anowar Hossain Helal MP, and Md Salim Uddin Tarafdar Selim MP, also spoke as special guests at the conference.
Hasan Mahmud said, “The economic transformation of all the people of Bangladesh has come about due to the efficient and far-reaching leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh’s per capita income has surpassed that of Pakistan and India. Pakistan is now sighing at the economic growth of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is now an example to the people of Pakistan.”
The Broadcasting Minister said that the BNP is unhappy with everything now.
“They are unhappy because the people of the country are happy. They are also unhappy about the recovery of their leader Begum Khaleda Zia as BNP has no other politics except the issue of Begum Zia's illness,” he added.
Criticizing the BNP's role in the ongoing process of formation of the Election Commission, he said, “When all the other political parties and civil society in the country submitted the names of about 300 people to the search committee for the formation of the Election Commission, the BNP stayed away from this issue. However, BNP-supported persons also submitted names.”
He further said that due to the constructive steps of the current government, the economic power of the people has increased.
“At a time when every person in the country is economically self-sufficient, when there is happiness in every home, when the people are satisfied with the politics of the Awami League, the opponents of independence and Pakistan's allies are engaged in deep conspiracies against the country and government inside and outside the country,” he said.
Addressing the local leaders and activists, Minister Hasan Mahmud said, “Many people will come to join the Awami League to save themselves after witnessing the country's massive development and success under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Those who want to come back to save themselves, those who are involved in land grabbing and drugs, will not be able to lead the party.”
