The leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party have expressed utter surprise over the sudden dissolution of the committees of some important wings of the party.
In a major move, the BNP on Thursday night dissolved the committees of Dhaka north and south city units, Chattogram city unit, Barishal city unit and the central committee of the Juba Dal, the youth front of the party.
In a release, signed by the party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, said that the convening committees of four city units and the central committee of the Juba Dal would be declared later.
The Dhaka city north, south, east and west units of Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the BNP, were also dissolved on Friday.
Keeping a mum over the dissolution of the committees, some BNP leaders say that these committees have been dissolved due to their sheer failure in waging movements.
Many leaders say that they cannot find any justification over such a move on the eve of the Eid festival.
But, some leaders of the dissolved committees said that acting chairperson Tarique Rahman hinted at dissolving the committees during a virtual meeting on Thursday.
On August 2 in 2021, a-49 member convening committee of Dhaka south city unit of BNP was formed with Abdus Salam as convener and Rafiqul Alam Majnu as member secretary. The DUCSU former VP Amanullah Aman was made the convener and national football team former skipper Aminul Haque was made the member secretary of the 47-member committee of the Dhaka north city unit.
Meanwhile, the BNP formed a partial committee of the Juba Dal on May 22 in 2022 with Sultan Salahuddin Tuku as president and Monaem Munna as general secretary. After a span of nine months, a full-fledged 251 member committee was declared on February 22 in 2023.
