Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that BNP is ignoring the president, the search committee and the dialogue because they do not believe in democracy. Their behavior is a great threat to the country's democracy

"It is their intention to destroy the democratic system and go to power through a back door, through conspiracy and they will not accept the election unless the angels also guarantee them victory," he said.

The minister made the remarks while talking to reporters after speaking as the chief guest at the Dhaka OIC Youth Capital 2020 Awards Ceremony at the Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal Auditorium of the National Sports Council in the capital on Wednesday.

The search committee sat down with various political parties, civil society representatives, eminent personalities and followed a remarkable process of taking names from them, which has aroused a response in the country, he said.

Hasan Mahmud said that in fact the President has given his power to the search committee. The search committee will select and send the names of 10 people to the President, from where he will appoint 5 people. BNP's domestic intellectuals have also told the search committee that the BNP needs to come forward, however BNP have no involved themselves from the beginning.

"Everyone deserves to be thanked by the people for the way the search committee is working with everyone. The Election Commission is not formed in such a participatory manner in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and even in different countries of Europe," he said.

Earlier in his speech, the Information Minister said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had made Bangladesh a member of OIC in 1974.

“That is why today we are able to host OIC Youth Capital events. Today, Bangladesh has been able to take a place in the world in the field of sports due to the enthusiasm of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

It is a matter of pride when the youth cricket team becomes world champion, our women's cricket team wins Asia Cup, women's soccer team defeats Pakistan by 11 goals, even when our physically challenged athletes bring medals from Asian Olympics we are world news,” he said.

This achievement has been possible due to the various initiatives and steps taken by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to excel in sports, he added.

At the end of the meeting, the guests handed over the prizes to the winners of 10 competitions on art and culture organized by OIC Youth Forum.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Zahid Hasan Russell presided over the function while State Minister for Religion Faridul Huq Khan, State Minister for Culture KM Khalid, Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Secretary for Ministry of Youth and Sports Mesbah Uddin and President of OIC Youth Forum Taha Ayhan also spoke on the occasion.
