Although BNP has rejected the elections, Chairman of Saronjai Union under Tanore upazila and former BNP president of the upazila Mozammel Haque Khan at an election campaign at Sidhair Club crossing of Saronjai has sought vote for the 'Boat' candidate. Mozammel Haque Khan is now a Member of the Rajshahi District BNP Convening Committee.
The election campaign was held on Tuesday last to drum up support in favour of AL nominated three-times MP Omar Faruk Chowdhury of Rajshahi-1 (Godagari-Tanore) constituency. BNP leader Mozammel Haque Khan attended the meeting and urged the voters to cast their votes for 'Boat' symbol.
In the election campaign, BNP leader Mozammel Haque Khan said, “Our party BNP has rejected the votes this time but there is no profit in wasting any vote. I am requesting the BNP leaders and activists that you should not waste your votes by sitting at home. You should visit the polling centres and cast your votes. You should cast your votes for AL leader, MP Omar Faruk Chowdhury in the 'Boat' symbol.'
BNP leader Mozammel Haque Khan further told the voters, “You have made me chairman by casting votes in my favour. Don't you want the development? If you want, you should cast your votes for Faruk Chowdhury in the Boat symbol. If you cast your votes for Boat, there will be further development of the people of Saronjai.”
Several leaders of Tanore upazila BNP informed, as a responsible BNP leader, Mozammel Haque Khan cannot seek votes for the 'Boat' symbol by defying the party decision.
However, when asked, Mozammel Haque Khan said, “The candidate of Boat Faruk Chowdhury is a son of Tanore and I seek votes in his favour for the development of the area.”
Presided over by Union AL president Ataur Rahman, the meeting was addressed, among others, by president and general secretary of Tanore Upazila AL Mainul Islam Swapon and Abul Kalam Azad, respectively.
