Former Upazila BNP advisor Md Faruq faced expulsion from the party for defying the party's stance and deciding to partake in the upcoming Nabinagar Upazila Parishad election in Brahmanbaria.
The decision was confirmed through a press release signed by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of the BNP Central Executive Committee, on Wednesday.
Faruq's expulsion stemmed from specific complaints and his refusal to adhere to the party’s directives, as outlined in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) constitution.
Faruq is vying for the chairman's position in the fourth-phase election scheduled for June 5, carrying the pineapple symbol.
Expressing the importance of party discipline, Upazila BNP General Secretary Nazmul Hossain urged all members to refrain from actions detrimental to the party's reputation.
Sources from the Upazila Election Officer's office revealed that eight candidates, including seven from the Upazila Awami League and Faruq, are contesting for the chairman's post.
As per the Election Commission's schedule, the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers for the fourth phase of the Upazila Parishad elections was May 19. Symbol allocation took place on May 20, with voting slated for June 5.
