Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said, "I hope BNP and Begum Khaleda Zia will remember the generosity shown by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina towards Begum Khaleda Zia. The Prime Minister has given her a chance to stay free by repeatedly postponing his sentence. Now they have appealed again, the Prime Minister is generous.”
He said that BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir does not go to the people, he sometimes goes to Thakurgaon and does programmes on television, and sometimes he does some programmes to show people. BNP does not want the people to be good either, they are angry that the people are lving better than the BNP-ruled era. That is why they say all kinds of misleading things.
This was stated by the Minister of Information and Broadcasting in response to a question from reporters after the inauguration ceremony of WASA Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant-2 project at Chattogram hosted by Radisson Blue on Wednesday. Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant-2 project through video conference from Ganabhaban.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said that the Awami League has always been by the side of the people in times of crisis, the BNP has never been. During the Coronavirus period, the BNP distributed a few packets in a programme showing a couple of people, held a photo session on television, and did nothing else.
He said that the leaders and workers of Awami League are with the people. As the leaders and workers of AL were on the side of the people, five out of the 71 members of the Central Committee of the party died during this Covid-19 pandemic. Many party MPs have died. They have distributed health care materials and relief among the people. After recovering from there, he went to the people again. That is why they have fallen ill and many have died.
‘I have been infected twice. I am one of the busiest politicians in Dhaka city. Even then I come to my constituency every week’,said Dr Hasan.
Responding to a question from reporters about Begum Khaleda Zia's request for extension of her sentence, the Information Minister said that Begum Khaleda Zia cut the cake on August 15 by changing her date of birth to ridicule the August 15 tragedy, to encourage the killers, and Khaleda Zia and her husband Ziaur Rahman. The August killers have been rehabilitated, Khaleda Zia and her son Tareq Rahman are involved in the grenade attack on August 21. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to Khaleda Zia's door and stood for about 20 minutes - the door did not open.

The Prime Minister said he has taken the development of Chattogram into her own hands. Accordingly, many mega projects are being implemented throughout Chattogram. In its continuation, drinking water is being supplied to Chattogram city from Rangunia. The people of Rangunia are very happy to be able to provide potable water to the people of Chittagong. The people in this area have cooperated a lot in the implementation of this project so that the people of Chittagong get potable water.
