Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister, Obaidul Quader, on Monday said that the true nature of the BNP-Jamaat alliance has been exposed through the quota reform movement. He accused them of attempting to turn the entire student community against the government.
At a press conference held at the Awami League President’s office in Dhanmondi this afternoon, Quader warned that the government will not tolerate any public suffering in the name of the quota reform movement. “Any malevolent forces will be firmly resisted,” he asserted.
“We had long suspected that the quota reform movement was a guise for an anti-government agitation,” Quader said, adding that the
movement has involvement and open support from BNP-Jamaat and other opposition parties. “This became evident last night through their anti-liberation war slogans.”
The minister further said that expressing opinions on matters under judicial consideration is tantamount to contempt of court. “Chhatra League would take action against self-proclaimed razakars on campus,” he said, condemning slogans related to razakar identities as an affront to national fundamental values.
Obaidul Quader said that the brandishing of the defeated quarter of the Liberation War won’t be tolerated.
“The demand of expunging Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s comment is tantamount to audacity. The government won’t accept any type of public sufferings in the name quota movement in government services. Any evil efforts will be resisted strictly,” he said.
ssssQuader said a vested group is trying to carry out a movement against the government in the name of quota movement. BNP is supporting the movement and the anti-liberation slogan on Sunday night at Dhaka University has proved it, he added.
He said there is no place for rajakars in the soil of Bangladesh. The government won’t accept the uproar of anti-liberation forces, he said, adding, “How they claim themselves as meritorious?”
The AL general secretary said BNP-Jamaat is the main mastermind of the movement. It is an audacity to give an ultimatum to the government, he said.
He said the decision of the country’s highest court over the quota system in government services is final. Chhatra League and pro-liberation forces are ready to give befitting reply to them, who are instigating the quota movement, he said.
“Our only target is to establish the spirit of the Liberation War. What spirit do they believe in? What lessons did they learn? What did they learn?” Quader said pointing at the students.
He, however, warned the protesters that any destructive activities won’t be tolerated in the name of movement. They will not be allowed to do any destructive act, he said.
AL Presidium Members Dr Abdur Razzak and Shahjahan Khan, Joint General Secretaries Mahabub-ul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organising Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, SM Kamal Hossain and Sujit Roy Nandi and Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, among others, were present.
