BNP in do-or-die state over Dec 10

BNP’s leader in exile is determined to create something horrific to provoke public concern to attract global attention and make the country’s politics termoil, said sources.

Because, the sources said, the main objective of the BNP leader, who is convicted by the court on various charges and now absconding abroad, is not to practice democracy peacefully, but to destabilize the country, and inflict a crushing blow to the ruling Awami League.

So, with an ulterior motive, the BNP leadership is moving forward with the design to fish in troubled waters.

The BNP had earlier requested the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to allow either the ‘Suhrawardy Udyan’ or the road in front the BNP office for holding its rally on December 10.

Considering the overall situation, the DMP authorities allowed the ‘Suhrawardy Udyan’, which is an open and wide ground, for the rally.

Police and authorities concerned requested the BNP not to hold the rally occupying any busy road and causing sufferings to city dwellers.

But, the BNP is now determined to hold its rally programme occupying a very busy road, on December 10 ignoring the DMP’s approval.

Sources said, the BNP has taken the decision just to provoke the police into action.

According to sources, as per the directives of Tariq Rahman, the acting chairman of BNP and also the son of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, a virtual meeting of the BNP’s Standing Committee held in November took the decision to hold the rally in front of BNP office occupying roads.

Tariq Rahman also directed the BNP leader to do something against the government so that a chaotic situation is created and the political situation is destabilized.

Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, one of the members of the BNP Standing Committee, said they would not hold their rally programme at Suhrawardy Udyan suspecting government’s alleged ill-motive behind it.

DMP officials said that BNP has been allowed the Suhrawardy Udyan for holding a rally on December 10 on 26 conditions as usual.

Immediately after the DMP approval, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, a joint secretary of the BNP, on Tuesday said whatever police say, the rally will be held in front of the BNP office.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday said that if BNP holds its rally in front of its party office instead of the Suhrawardy Udyan, which is approved by the police, the BNP would do something wrong.

Besides, ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, also the Minister for Road, Transport and Bridge, Wednesday raised a question over the BNP’s rally in front of its party office.

He also said that if BNP creates a chaotic situation centring its rally on December 10, the Awami League would counter it with the help of the people of the country.
