BNP holds road march, AL anti-violence rallies

In a bid to win public support in the next parliamentary election BNP on Friday organized ‘Padajatra’ programme demanding resignation of the AL government and holding the upcoming National Parliament elections under a neutral or caretaker government. 

The Padajatra, in favour of its 10-point demand, was held from Gopibagh to Gulistan in the city.

Meanwhile, the ruling party held a rally at Mohammadpur and Farmgate as part of its vigilance so that the BNP and its allies could not create any chaos in the name of anti-government movement. 

Dhaka City South Unit of BNP organized the Padajatra programme where Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, secretary general of BNP, was the chief guest. BNP leaders Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Mirza Abbas and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, among others, were also present in the programme. 

According to witnesses, the BNP leaders and activists gathered at Gopibagh to join the ‘Padajatra’ programme which started at 2:30pm and they reached at Nayabazar via Tikatuli and Gulistan.

On the other hand, two separate ‘Peace Rallies’ were organised by the Awami League as part of the vigilance by the ruling party so that nobody could create chaos or make the situation of the country unstable.

One of the rallies was organized at Mohammadpur by Dhaka City South unit of Awami League and another was organized at Farmgate by Dhaka City south unit of Awami League.

At the peace rallies, ruling party leaders said their peace rally programmes were organised aimed at helping the law and order forces, and the administration of the government.

Witnesses said, although the rallies were organized by the Awami League, leaders and activists from all of its affiliated organisations like Jubo League, Chhatra League, Jobo Mahila League and Tanti League also tokk part.

AL officials said although the party held two separate rallies at Mohammadpur and Farmgate, all the leaders and activists of the party and its affiliated organisations remained vigilant at every point of the capital so that any miscreants could not get any chance of creating chaos in the name of movement.
