Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) Patuakhali Sadar upazila unit organized a mass rally marking the occasion of the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
The rally took place at 10:00am on Saturday at Shaheed Alauddin Children’s Park in Patuakhali town.
The rally was presided over by the president of Patuakhali sadar upazila BNP, Kazi Mahbub Hossain, and Maulana Nesarul Haque, a member of BNP’s National Executive Committee, governor of the Bangladesh Islamic Foundation, and former general secretary of Olama Dal, delivered the keynote speech as the chief guest.
District BNP convener Abdus Rashid Chunnu Mia, secretary Snehangshu Sarker Kuti, and former mayor and district BNP member Moshtaq Ahmed Pinu, among others, spoke at the rally.
During their speeches, the leaders said in the past fifteen years, BNP offices in Patuakhali had been attacked and vandalized 14 times. We couldn’t protest, we couldn’t sleep at home, we couldn’t take care of our children, yet we stayed in the district and never fled the country, but Sheikh Hasina fled.
The leaders further assured that Patuakhali, known as a city of peace, would remain a peaceful city as they vowed to continue their struggle unitedly.
Since the morning, BNP leaders and activists from Patuakhali Sadar Upazila and 14 unions of the area gathered in different groups and marched towards the rally venue.
Many participants carried bundle paddy sheaf and placards with photos of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. Some even paraded with a replica of Khaleda Zia, playing drums and creating excitement throughout the town.
