A joyous procession was brought out at Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna on Wednesday, arranged by the local BNP, as BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was released from longtime imprisonment on Tuesday.
Students of various educational institutions of the area participated in the joyous procession as well.
The joyous procession was brought out from the rail gate party office of the town at 12:00pm with the participation of many leaders and activists of BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and Swecchasebak Dal. The procession paraded through Ishwardi-Pabna road and reached Hospital road parading though the post office. Later, starting from the hospital road, the procession paraded through College road and Station road and reached the party office at the rail gate where the procession ended.
Former general secretary of municipality BNP SM Fazlur Rahman, general secretary of municipality Jubo Dal Jakir Hossain Jewel, member secretary of Upazila Swecchasebal Dal Mehedi Hasan gave short speech before the beginning of the procession. They demanded the release of 47 leaders and activists of BNP, including former general secretary of Ishwardi municipality BNP Jakaria Pintu, who were sentenced to various terms on charge of attacking Sheikh Hasina’s train convoy.
Earlier, leaders and activists gathered in front of the party office bringing out small processions from various wards and areas of the upazila. The rail gate traffic intersection was crowded with them. The joyous procession began at 12 pm. BNP leaders heroic Freedom Fighter Abdur Razzak, Abdur Razzak Firoz and Aminur Rahman Swapon, Jubo Dal leaders Sajeduzzaman Jitu, Rashedul Islam Ripon, Akter Hossain Nifa, Jahangir Alam and Selim Chowdhury and others were present at that time.
