A number of Awami League activists sustained injuries when BNP cadres and miscreants equipped with arms and local weapons swooped on a peace rally of the Awami League in Sirajganj sadar upazila on Saturday.The BNP cadres also torched several motor vehicles and damaged many more.
As part of the Awami League's countrywide 'Peace Rally' programme, Sirajganj sadar upazila unit also organised the peace rally at around 11:00am at Kalia Haripur union.
It may be mentioned that the ruling party has been continuously holding 'Peace Rally' since the last month in protest against the terrorism, anarchy and conspiracy against the country and people.

Witnesses said the BNP cadres and activists launched an attack on the leaders and activists of AL at Paikpara intersection when the AL men were on way to join the peace rally.Local Awami League lawmaker Habib-e-Millat (Sirajganj-2) said that the BNP cadres made the attacks on the Awami League men without any provocation.
"The BNP cadres also set several motorcycles on fire and also vandalised several others", said the lawmaker.He alleged that the BNP cadres made the attack as part of a plan to create anarchy and destablise peace in the area.
Inspector Humayun Kabir, Officer-in-charge of Sirjaganj Sadar Police Station, said the miscreants burnt and vandalized a number of motor vehicles."Additional forces have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident. Besides, we are trying to trace the miscreants involved in the incident", said the OC.
