BNP’s top leader living in London, Tarique Rahman, is angry with the party’s senior leaders for their failure to drum up public support in the anti-government movement, said sources.
According to sources, despite repeated attempts through various programmes, BNP's senior leaders, including secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, assigned to operate the party activities, were not able to forge a strong movement against the government.
The sources said the acting chairman of BNP, Tarique Rahman, who is a fugitive after being convicted by the court in various corruption and criminal cases, is very dissatisfied with the BNP leaders for failing to make the country's situation unstable through anarchy as per the directives.
Sources in the party said that staying in London, Tarique Rahman holds online meetings repeatedly with BNP leaders through video conference, and at every meeting he directs them to do something which would draw global attention on Bangladesh's political situation.
Tarique Rahman is continuously directing the BNP leaders in Bangladesh to do anything to fulfill his desires at any cost.
But, the BNP leaders could not do so, which made Tarique Rahman angry with the party activities.
On the other hand, many of the BNP leaders are also now angry with Tarique Rahman for his irrelevant order and desires centering the political activities.
Some of the BNP leaders told Tarique Rahman that they had been trying their best but could not succeed in forging a strong anti-government movement due to huge public support in favour of the government.
Besides, the BNP leaders also told Tarique that it is not possible to implement what he (Tarique) wants, and that the way of implementation is also not suitable for the country and its people.
Besides, people are not satisfied with the BNP's various activities in the past. Rather, people are also angry with BNP for its earlier acts like fire terrorism, affiliation with anti-liberation forces like Jamaat-e-Islam and anti-state elements.
The BNP and its main ally Jamaat-e-Islam had been trying to oust the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for over a decade. They had been trying to forge an anti-government movement through becoming united with various minor parties. But none of the attempts could result in anything. The BNP and Jamaat have also been trying to mislead the people and confuse them through propaganda and rumour in various social media.
Leaders of BNP and Jamaat are also found to be engaged in anti-state acts at home and abroad.
Not only that, the BNP-Jamaat alliance had also taken around two dozen attempts at different times to kill Sheikh Hasina. As part of the attempt, on August 21 in 2004, when Sheikh Hasina was the opposition leader in the National Parliament, a grisly attack was carried out at a rally of Awami League at the capital’s Bangabandhu Avenue, where dozens of grenades were hurled aiming to kill Sheikh Hasina.
Being the mastermind of the grenade attacks, Tarique Rahman is now a fugitive by the court. He is also convicted in many other corruption and criminal cases.
His mother Khaleda Zia is also a convict by the court in a corruption case.
