US secretary of state Antony Blinken has assured his Bangladesh counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen that Washington will continue to stand by Dhaka with its “best efforts” in the development endeavours.
They met in a meeting in New Delhi on the sidelines of the G20 meeting where Bangladesh attended as a guest country.
Dr Momen on Thursday, after returning from the meeting said, Blinken assured him of the US’s continued support.
“We (US) will stand by you (Bangladesh),” he said, quoting Blinken as saying during their meeting.
He described his meeting with Blinken as “very constructive” and said that they discussed various critical bilateral issues. “We have developed a very good rapport with the US.”
His understanding on our bilateral issues “are not bad”, Dr Momen said, adding that the secretary of state told him that Washington would like to engage more in Bangladesh’s different development endeavours.
The foreign minister also explained to the US Secretary of State that Bangladesh had formulated the Digital Security Act (DSA) to check communal conflict and confront hate crime.
He, however, said the issue regarding US sanction on Rapid Action Battalion did not come up during his conversation with Blinken.
