A Cox's Bazar court a Sunday summoned an NGO worker in a defamation case. Judge Helal Uddin of Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-3 issued the order after police submitted investigation report in this regard.
The accused is Farzana Akhtar, 28, an employee of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST). She was summoned at the next session of the court, said plaintiff’s lawyer Advocate Sazzadul Karim. The lawsuit against Farzana was filed on November 10. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) filed the defamation case of Tk 100 crore against the female employee of BLAST.
The plaintiff of the case, on behalf of the BGB, is Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) Naib Subedar Md Ali Mollah, in-charge of the Damdamia check-post of Teknaf BGB 2 Battalion.
It was known that Farzana falsely accused male members of the Damdamia BGB outpost on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Highway of gang-raping her. After checking the outpost’s CCTV footage, the allegation was found to be false. Advocate Sazzadul Karim said the Teknaf police had submitted investigation report of the sensational defamation case against the Blast NGO worker who falsely alleged rape at the Damdamiya checkpost. No signs of rape were found. The BLAST employee is the lone accused in the case.
On-duty BGB men in Damdamia stopped the auto-rickshaw for regular checking, but the accused would not comply. Female BGB personnel later made her disembark the vehicle and she was searched. She later raised the allegation of 'gang-rape' against male BGB members of the check post and went to Teknaf Police Station to file a rape case.
A medical board of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital examined her but did not find any evidence of rape.
