Cold wind and sometimes untimely rains have made almost everyone ill. Public life has seriously affected by the freezing cold and fog. This severity of winter has caused more problems among the marginalized people of Mymensingh region. About 2 lakh 77 thousand blankets received from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, were distributed through the Mymensingh City Corporation and the 4 district administrations to provide warmth to the helpless and distressed people.
On Thursday (January 25), district relief and rehabilitation officers of Mymensingh division informed that about 2 lakh 76 thousand 990 warm clothes were distributed to the needy with the help of district administration and district relief and rehabilitation officers in Mymensingh division.
Out of this, about 1 lakh 28 thousand 800 blankets have been distributed in Mymensingh district. There are 4,000 more blankets left out of the allocation which will be distributed after verification. About 55 thousand 150 blankets have been distributed in Netrakona district with the help of district administration. According to the relief and rehabilitation officer in Jamalpur district, 52,400 blankets have been distributed. About 36 thousand 640 blankets are being distributed by district administration in Sherpur through Upazila Nirbahi officials.
Mymensingh District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Muhammad Chanwar Hossain said that government blankets are being distributed with scrutiny. The blankets are being distributed by the government among the poor, helpless and destitute people. May they get rid of the winter. Blankets are also distributed among the physically challenged, blind, deaf and low income people from the district administration.
Meanwhile, at the initiative of Mymensingh City Corporation, Mayor Md Ikramul Haque Titu distributed blankets to about 4 thousand helpless people in Palpara, New Town and Bihari camps of the city on Wednesday (January 24). Earlier last Saturday (January 20) he distributed blankets among about 3,500 cold sufferers. Md Yusuf Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Mymensingh City Corporation was present during the distribution of blankets.
The Chief Executive Officer said that according to the instructions of the Prime Minister, Mayor Md. Ikramul Haque Titu has given instructions to distribute blankets among the helpless people. Mymensingh City Corporation's winter clothing distribution program will continue for the needy people. Members of parliament and rich people of the department also distributed blankets on private initiative.
