A huge amount of goods were stolen from dockyard-2 of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Communication in Narayanganj’s Bandar upazipa on May 31.
After three days of the incident on June 4, executive engineer of dockyard-2 Sirajul Islam filled a complaint with Bandar police station stating that 100 meter electric wire, a grinding machine and a hand mike have been stolen by unknown thieves from a store room on the East side of the dockyard.
Officer-in-Charge of Bandar police station Rafiqul Islam told the Bangladesh Post that the executive engineer submitted an incomplete complaint where he didn’t mention his name, cell phone number and worth of pilferage goods.
The complaint investigator Inspector Istiaq Ahmed of the station told this correspondent that he didn’t get the complaint letter yet and that he was transferred to Shiddhirganj police station three days ago.
When contacted Executive Engineer of dockyard-2 Sirajul islam over cell phone he said that an inactive grinding machine and some electric wires stolen from a storeroom during weekly holidays on Friday or Saturday (May 30 or 31).
A source of dockyard-2 Chunnu Master who is posted in Dhaka but leads the BIWTC staff grouping and the organizing secretary of staff association told that goods worth of 50 lakh taka including costly machineries and copper wires had been stolen. He termed the incident as not a pilfering matter but as a prepared drama.
He added that corruption engulfed BIWTC with nexus between officials, staffs and local influential persons.
He also said four years ago, BIWTC purchased seven fog lights showing bill 7 crore taka but it costed only ten thousands taka per piece.
A probe body has been formed to investigate the pilfering incident, claimed a source of Narayanganj BIWTC.
Area manager of BIWTC in Narayanganj Sheikh Firoz said that he does not have any knowledge about the matter while dockyard-2 in charge Sirajul Islam said a body was formed including officials from both Dhaka and Narayanganj offices.
However, he didn’t agree to say the details how many members were in the committee and designations of the members. For how many days the probe body will investigate the incident that has yet not been confirmed from any responsible officials.
Bandar police station sources told the Bangladesh Post that the pilfering incident is a mysterious one as seven armed Ansar members and five civil staff are on duty at the gate of dockyard-2 for 24 hours.
