The 87th birthday of Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Sheikh was observed in Narail on Sunday.
Narail district administration and Noor Mohammad Sheikh Trust placed floral wreath at Noor Mohammad’s memorial in the morning.
A discussion was held at Noor Mohammad Sheikh Library with Member Secretary of the Noor Mohammad Sheikh Trust and Chandibarpur Upazila Parishad (UP) Chairman Azizur Rahman Bhuiyan in the chair.
The discussion was addressed, among others, by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Narail Md Fakrul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Riazul Islam, Narail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sadia Islam and Sheikh Md. Golam Mostafa Kamal, son of Noor Mohammad.
Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad was born on February 26 in1936 at Mohishkhola village in Narail Sadar upazila. He lost his parents at his early age.
He joined the then East Pakistan Rifles (EPR), now known as Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), on March 14, 1959.
Noor Mohammad Sheikh was adorned with the highest military award for sacrificing his life by taking part in war at Goalhati and Chuitpur in Jashore against the Pakistani occupation forces on September 5 of 1971.
A guard of honour was also given to him by the district administration, whichalso arranged a Quran Khawani on the occasion of his birthday.
