The Martyred Intellectuals’ Day and 52nd martyrdom anniversary of the Liberation War hero Birshreshtha Shaheed Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir were observed paying tribute to the great sons of the soil through daylong programmes in Chapainawabganj.
Marking the day, the District Administration, Awami League District Unit and different socio-cultural organisations chalked out elaborate programmes in the district.
The day's programmes started at 8.30 am with offering wreaths at the memorial of Birshreshtha Jahangir at Rehaichar where he was shot dead by the Pakistani army during his attack on the Pakistanis and their collaborators.
Later, flowers were offered at the graves of Birshreshtha Shaheed Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir and Shaheed Major Nazmul Hoque on the Sonamasjid premises at 10.30 am.
Besides, floral wreaths were also offered at the mass grave at Baliadighi in Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district at 11 am.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj AKM Galiv Khan,chairman of Chapainawabganj Zila Parishad Bir Muktijoddha Md. Ruhul Amin and superintendent of police of Chapainawabganj Md. Saidul Hasan and others spoke in a short discussion.
In the afternoon, another discussion meeting was held at Bangabandhu Mancha on the Deputy Commissioner's Office premises with Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj Ahmed Mahbub-Ul-Islam in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner AKM Galiv Khan addressed the discussion as the chief guest while Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Saidul Hasan, Chief Executive Officer of Chapainawabganj Zila Parishad Md. Afaj Uddin and Bir Muktijoddha Advocate Abdus Samad spoke in the meeting as special guests.
Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mst. Tasmina Khatun gave the welcome speech.
Earlier, competitions on essay, drawing and recitation were held on the occasion.
Besides, Exim Bank Agricultural University Bangladesh, Shishu Academy and different educational institutions arranged separate discussions and doa mahfil marking the day.
