Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad’s birth anniv observed

The 89th birth anniversary of Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh was observed at Nur Mohammad Nagar under Chandibarpur union in Narail sadar upazila of the district on Monday in a befitting manner.

Nur Mohammad Nagar,which was earlier known as Mahiskhola where he was born,was named after him in his honour,souces said.

The Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh trust and district administration jointly organized various programmes to mark the occasion.

To mark the birth anniversary, the programme was begun with the recitation from the Holly Quran in the morning,Rally, giving guard of honour at Nur Mohammad Nagar 10:00 am and offering prayers seeking eternal peace of the departed soul at 10:30 am of Nur Mohammad Sheikh,discussion on Nur Mohammad Sheikh works and life at noon were held in the Nur Mohammad Sheikh Memorial Museum and Library auditorium on the day.

The Narail Deputy Commissioner  Muhammad Asfaqul Haque Chowdhury who is also the president of the  Nur Mohammad Sheikh Trust,was attended the programmes as chief guest while Additional Police Super Md. Anwar Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shashoti Shil and Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Linkon Biswas.

, Sadar upazila nirbahi officer Sharmin, Trustee members of Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh trust heroic freedom fighter Advocate S.A Matin,SA Baki and son of Nur Mohammad Sheikh’s Golam Mostofa were present occasion. 

Nur Mohammad born on February 26 of 1936 at Mahiskhola village under Chandibarpur union in Narail sadar upazila.He joined then East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) on March 14,1959,which is now Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). He later joined the independence war in 1971.He was killed on September 5,1971 at Goalhati in Jashore by the then Pakistan army.
